Flyers staff receive award

First year Leamington Flyers head coach Dale Mitchell and his staff (assistants Mark Ridout, Kade McKibbin and Matt Anthony) were given the Pete's Sports Award for Coaching Staff of the Year in the Western Conference by the GOJHL.

"A credit to everyone in the organization." said Michell. "I joined the Flyers pretty late in the summer so hats off to (general manager) Justin Solcz. He put together a good group of players."

The Flyers finished first in the conference with 72 points.

"It's great that it's the coaching staff of the year because we all brought something different and credit to the players. If they don't perform and do what we ask, if they don't win games we don't get credited with an award like that." said Michell.

The goaltending tandem of Ryan Polidori and Boe Piroski received the Roy Caley Award after posting the lowest goals against average at 2.41 per game.

Forward Ryan MacPherson earned the Rookie of the Year and Rookie with Most Points awards after finishing with 27 goals and 57 points.

"We are as excited about the team and players growth and development over this past season as we are for the individual and team achievements." said Solcz.

The Flyers host Game 1 of the Western Conference starting next week against the Chatham Maroons. "They've always been a tough opponent for us." said Mitchell. "Especially in their arena. It's a lot smaller than our arena so it's gonna be a great battle and a fun series to watch."
