Christmas tournament returning to UWindsor

The University of Windsor High School Basketball Christmas Tournament is the latest sports event to return post pandemic. "We are excited to welcome back our annual holiday tournament after a two-year absence." said Chris Cheng in an online report on the University website.

The Lancer men's head basketball coach experienced the tournament for the first time in 2019 and was pleased to have the opportunity to carry the torch and continue the storied tournament. You may recognize a current Lancer or two, who played in the tournament three years ago, in the following video.

The previous tournament featured four local and four out of town teams. When the 64th edition tips off December 9th at the Toldo Lancer Centre there will be 14 teams including the Kennedy Prep Clippers, who are the reigning tournament champs.

Here is the tournament schedule.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
