On the rise, On the radar

They are the Border City Boxing Club's Golden Girls — and their potential knows no limits. Rosalind Canty and Sam Bumbaca each received an email from Boxing Canada recognizing them as potential members of Team Canada for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, this July.

“Certainly in the years to come, they're going to be in those positions,” Josh Canty told Powerplay Sports.

He says the club’s boxers could be included on the team if an injury affects current members. “It’s just a way of recognizing them.”

Receiving the emails confirms they are on the right path, which Canty believes could lead to a push to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. “And certainly by the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia, they’ll both be in their prime. That’s the pathway.”
