Wildcats enjoying tournament success

After winning two of their first three tournaments this season Lee Walton's perception of his Windsor Wildcats 15U tier 2 team changed. "At that point there we kinda let them know hey we're going to change the outlook of what we'd expect coz we've got something special going on here and they could feel it too." Walton said.

With a new mindset they rolled into Livonia, Michigan for the USSSA Livonia Storm Summer Bash 14 Open Tournament June 24th. Some of the teams had players that were a year older than the younger Wildcats but Walton decided not to tell his players.

They lost to the Blue Water Wolves 13-6 and Gold Fast Pitch Hernandez from Ann Arbour 13-12 in pool play. They rebounded to win the next two and drew Blue Water in the semi-final. The Wildcats avenged their loss to the Wolves with a 4-2 win. "That was a massive win for our kids." Walton said. "Allowed them to see what was possible just staying the course."

In the final they drew GF Hernandez and beat them 7-5. "It was collective across the board. It wasn't one or two kids. Everybody had a moment which was fantastic for them."

Windsor heads to Kentucky for a five-day NSA World Series tournament before returning home for their qualifiers. The Wildcats are hoping to make it to the Provincial Grand Champions at the end of July in Stratford.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
