GOJHL moves start date to January

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

The influx of positive Covid-19 cases has forced many changes including the start date of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season. Originally slated for December 2nd the league is now looking forward to dropping the puck on January 15th.

"The safety of players, staff and fans is our number one priority". said Leamington Flyers general manager Justin Solcz. "With the cases on the rise across the province a January start makes sense".

In the meantime the Flyers will continue their Essex County Super Series against LaSalle Wednesday at the Vollmer Complex. The series started Sunday with Leamington prevailing 2-0 at home.

With restrictions in place fans are not allowed to attend the games but can watch the action on hockeytv.com

Games are non-contact and "gives us more time to have a safe and successful season. There are different so many teams in the league at different health levels it's tough to start right now". said Solcz.
