Lancers fall to Laurier

Not a pretty game for the Windsor Lancers Saturday afternoon as they suffered their second straight loss 40-7 at Laurier. Windsor's offence was stymied by the Golden Hawks and didn't get on the board until early in the 4th quarter when QB Danny Skelton hit Javonni Cunningham with a 22-yard touchdown pass at 13:02.

Golden Hawks quarterback Taylor Elgersma showed why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country completing 27 of 36 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 21-yard TD run in the second quarter to give Laurier a 17-0 lead.

Windsor had 62 yards of offence at the half and finished with 230 on the day. Laurier had 438 total yards.

One bright spot was Windsor's defence picking up four sacks to add to their USports-leading 30. Kolade Amusan leads the nation with 10.5 sacks recording two vs Laurier. Devin Veresuk and Sal Raap-Kopiyka also downed Elgersma.

The Lancers, who fall to 5-2, return home next Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season against 0-7 York at 1pm.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
