The Windsor Lancers football team took the frustrations of two-game losing skid out of visiting York on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and closed out the regular season with a 69--0 win over the Lions. "I obviously felt the team played well yesterday in all 3 phases." said head coach J-P Circelli. "The defense was dominant in holding York to -13 total offensive yards. The offense found its rhythm, which allowed many players to contribute with catches, rushes and TDs. Special teams once again scored a punt return for a TD, our third of the season.
Circelli felt the best part of Saturday's game was seeing a lot of his players get on the field for the first time in their careers with their teammates cheering them on. "It was special to say the least."
Quarterback Danny Skelton went 11-16 for 129 yards and four touchdowns. Weagbe Mombo ran the ball four times for 116 yards and had an electrifying 75-yard touchdown with time running out in the third quarter. Liam Talbot closed out the game with a 69-yard punt return.
The win helped the Lancers finish the regular season 6-2, their best record since 2006. Circelli's team has achieved their goal of hosting a playoff game and will face Carleton Saturday afternoon at 4pm.
"This week will be all about preparing for a great Carleton team who have proven all year they are never out of a game." Circelli said. "Their ability to come through in the clutch is a tribute to their players and of course their fantastic coaching staff. This game will be a great challenge for us and an exciting one for the fans."
