Yzerman addresses signing former Spitfire Christian Fischer

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman addressed the media for the first time after a two-day free agent splash included the signing of former Windsor Spitfires forward Christian Fischer.

Yzerman feels bringing Fischer on board, along with Klim Kostin (traded to Detroit from Edmonton last Thursday and signed Saturday) makes the Red Wings bigger.

Fischer played for the USDP for two years before joining the Spits in 2015. In his lone season in Windsor Fischer scored 40 goals and led the team with 90 points. The 26-year old spent the last six seasons in Arizona where he accumulated 56 goals and 111 points in 398 games.
