The Assumption gym was loud and proud as the Purple Raiders advance to the WECSSAA sr. boys AA semi-finals, but it wasn't easy.
The Purple Raiders watched an 18-point lead evaporate into a slim one-point margin late in the game. Serge Hopogap caught fire and sparked L'Essor the comeback scoring 11 of his 20 points in the 4th quarter.
Down by three with over two minutes left in the game, L'Essor scambled down low trying to score which left Hopogap all alone at the top of the three-point line. A loose ball was kicked out to Hopogap who launched what looked like the game tying shot but it rimmed out.
Assumption hit important free throws down the stretch and held on for a 72-66 win. Alex Campbell led the Raiders and all scorers with 23 points as Assumption advances to the semis next Thursday.
Here's a look at who advanced out of the quarterfinals and will play for a chance at a championship next week.
