Community mourns loss of Sandy Repko

The Windsor–Essex sports community is mourning the loss of Sandy Repko of Kingsville, a beloved and tireless volunteer whose impact on local athletics spanned decades.

"She was like the energizer bunny," said Helen Vasilic, president of the Windsor Essex Athletic Club. "She did everything for all sports. It didn't matter what type of sporting event it was. She was there. She was helping and officiating or doing something for that sport."

For more than 50 years, Repko was a constant presence at track and field and cross-country events, never missing a meet and supporting competitions at every level, from league meets to OFSAA championships.

She was equally devoted to Essex District High School, where she kept score and announced countless football, basketball, and volleyball games from the scorer’s table that proudly bore her name, while also caring for officials and families with her trademark kindness.

A Windsor–Essex County Sports Hall of Fame inductee in 2014, Repko’s legacy is further honoured through the Repko Cup, awarded annually to the region’s top female student-athlete. She will be remembered for her resilience, generosity, and unwavering love of sport.

"She will not be forgotten and the rest of the officiating world, especially track across Canada who knew her, definitely big loss." Vasilic told Powerplay Sports.
