The Windsor-Essex County sports community is mourning the loss of Denise Hebert, a cherished coach, teacher, and mentor whose passion, kindness, and dedication shaped generations of athletes at every level.

Denise had an incredible gift for helping athletes reach their potential. Through her decades of coaching, she helped young athletes grow. They not only competed but built lifelong memories together while travelling the world.
"She definitely had a keen eye for noticing talent." said Lancers' head track and field coach Colin Inglis. "You look at all of the good throwers that came through Windsor, the club system, some stayed in Canada some went to the States and Denise definitely had a hand in that."
Her accomplishments are many—being inducted into the Windsor-Essex County Sports Hall of Fame among them—but if you knew Denise, it was never about the titles or medals. What mattered to her were the moments in between: the laughter at practices, the encouragement after tough competitions, and the bonds that felt more like family than team.
"Not only just athletes but I think also with people too." Inglis told Powerplay Sports. "I think she had that gift as a teacher as well. I knew Denise more so as a coach than a teacher but I think she did the same thing in the classroom from what I've heard. She was always there to help the kids."
Denise was special. Beloved by those who were fortunate to cross her path at one time or another. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former athletes, former students, and the entire community.
