Couvillon wins lacrosse championship

Now the focus switches to winning a championship with the Essex 73's

Kale Couvillon made the most of his extended junior B lacrosse season helping the Elora Mohawks win the Founders Cup. "It feels good to win especially in my last year of junior lacrosse," Couvillon told Powerplay Sports. "Elora is a special place to play and really good organization so that made it so much better to be able to bring the Founders Cup back to Elora."

The Mohawks beat the host Hamilton Mac-Klean Bengals 10-1 in the final on big efforts by Brinley Wilson (3G, 1A) and Evan McDougall (2G, 2A) to win their first national title since 2018.

"I feel extremely lucky to be able to join such a great team mid-season and I knew this team would have a very good chance at winning a championship because of how skilled they were offensively and defensively and a great coaching staff." said Couvillon who joined the team in late June after being traded by the Windsor Clippers.

The 20-year old is thankful to the Elora coaching staff for the opportunity to make an impact and the Clippers for giving him a chance to win a championship. He also took time to thank his parents. "For their continued support during the last half of the season with all of the travelling involved and taking time out of there day to come watch me."

Now the focus shifts to the Essex 73's. Couvillon didn't play Tuesday against Wheatley but is suiting up for the Orange-White game tonight. He feels there's some unfinished business and wants to experience a championship like he did with the Leamington Flyers in 2023.

"A hard task but this year I believe we have the team to do it," Couvillon said. "Last year I believed we had the team as well but things don't always go your way so ya, we're coming for that trophy this year for sure."
