Daniel Cummings catching a groove from downtown

Daniel Cummings is starting to heat up as the Windsor Lancers head down the stretch run of their season. Cummings knocked down seven 3-pointers Sunday afternoon against Guelph placing him third on the all-time Lancers list. "I shoot threes at practice. I put the work in you know. I shoot a lot of them so they have to drop at some point," said the 5th year forward with a big smile.

Cummings went 7-12 from downtown to help the Lancers down the Gryphons 83-78. The Aurora, Ontario native sits behind Mike Rocca (8) and Telloy Simon (10) for most three-pointers made in a game in program history.

It's a stat he was not aware of and a list he is happy to be on in his final season at the U. "Definitely honoured and glad to be moved up on the list." said Cummings who previous high was six against Laurier on February 15th of last year.

"The thing with D.C. is when he's going you gotta let him go," said head coach Chris Cheng. "Sometimes he shoots questionable shots but he's one of those where he doesn't shoot a shot he doesn't like. You gotta ride with it."

Cummings has been in and out of the lineup battling injuries this season. "He's starting to get his rythym back with four games left in the season but we'll take what we can get from him especially in his final year." said Cheng who has watched Cummings hit 12 of his last 20 shots from beyond the arc in his last two games.

At 4-14, Cummings wants to finish out the season as strong as he can to help the Lancers end with a good feeling, like Sunday.

Currently in Teacher's College, Cummings would like to teach and coach one day. "I started coaching during Covid and that's when I fell in love with it and coaching kinda led me to teaching."

Cummings has applied for jobs at school boards here and back home and is hopeful to begin a new journey later this year that includes his love of the game.

"Right now he's at Assumption for his placement. He's in his final semester and he'll be an amazing educator" Cheng said with pride.
