There’s no debate — Michael DiPietro has been one of the AHL’s best goaltenders this season.
The Providence Bruins netminder, and former Windsor Spitfire, earned AHL All-Star recognition after posting elite numbers across the board. Through his first 25+ appearances, DiPietro owns a sparkling 1.62 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage, along with 20 wins. Those marks not only lead the Providence Bruins, they rank him among the very top goaltenders in the entire league.
What stands out most? Efficiency. DiPietro is allowing fewer goals per game and stopping a higher percentage of shots than most starters — including Detroit prospect Sebastian Cossa.

Cossa, playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins, has also reached the 20-win mark and is having a strong season. But DiPietro currently holds the edge in both goals-against average and save percentage, two of the most telling goalie metrics.
Simply put: both are winning games — but right now, DiPietro is doing it with better numbers and that's why he was at the AHL All-Star Classic this week. Providence is at Bridgeport to take on the Islanders Saturday.
