Facchineri drafted to CPL

Windsor Lancers defender Frankie Facchineri has been selected by Winnipeg's Valour FC in Friday's Canadian Premier League USports draft. An OUA first team all-star this past season, Facchieri was chosen first in the second round.

Facchineri has CPL experience having made five appearances with Atletico Ottawa in 2020. He has also played for the Windsor FC this past summer earning League 1 Ontario defender of the year honours. He also captained Canada's U-17 team in 2019 and scored three goals with the Lancers last season.

“He’s a very good player who is very calm and composed on the ball and has a bit of a bite about him." Daryl Fordyce told Ed Tait, a writer for Valour FC. "He’s a player we think can come into our environment and really progress. First, he has to earn a U Sports contract with us, and as long as he works hard there’s no reason for him not to have, at minimum, a good CPL career.”

The Valour look forward to seeing Facchineri at training camp in February.
