Updated: Apr 29, 2024

Holy Names grad Theo Johnson brought his big smile downtown shortly after being drafted by the New York Giants in the 4th round of the NFL Draft.

He first greeted mayor Drew Dilkens before taking the stage at Windsor's NFL Draft party. "I just wanna say I appreciate the City of Windsor. The support from the city has been overwhelming," Johnson told an energized crowd. "Coming from Windsor I take a lot of pride in that everywhere I go."

The downtown event wasn't throw specifically for Johnson but he is a big reason it was held. "It was a celebration of football for the City of Windsor," said Ward 3 city councillor Renaldo Agostino. "Having Theo getting drafted in the NFL it's proof that when i comes to football Windsor matters.

The moment Theo addressed the city mattered so much the NFL shared it on their Facebook page. We can't embed and share that with you but can show you the video because we were there.

Theo was the second Canadian drafted behind offensive lineman Isaiah Adams of Ajax, Ontario. He stayed and met with fans and signed autographs.

The NFL Draft Party brought the community downtown and saw kids participate in various events and activities featuring players from the University of Windsor and St. Clair College running drills. NFL players with connections to our area were on hand. Luke Willson, Ed Phillion, Dakoda Shepley, Brett Romberg and OJ Atogwe took pictures and signed autographs for fans.

We caught up with Atogwe who shared his thoughts on the event and his favourite moment playing at Ford Field against the Lions.

We took pictures along the way. It was a fun day in downtown Windsor. Do you recognize anyone in the pics below?
