Flyers inch closer to first place

The Leamington Flyers moved to within three points of first place in the GOJHL's Western Conference with a 3-2 double overtime win in LaSalle Sunday afternoon. Wyatt O'Neil's wrist shot from the slot with 27 seconds left was tipped out front by Adam Jeffery giving the visitors the win.

LaSalle's Matt Carvalho opened the scoring in the second period on a feed from Ethan Hamelin on a two-on-one. O'Neil scored the game's next two goals including a second period breakaway. Stephane Crevier tallied his 23rd of the season at the six minute mark of the third to tie the game up.

The Vipers host the first place London Nationals Wednesday. The Flyers welcome the Chatham Maroons to Leamington Thursday.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
