Lakeshore tops Blenheim in first game of key weekend

The Lakeshore Canadiens took game one of a crucial home-and-home series Friday night, defeating the Blenheim Blades 4-2.

Both teams entered the weekend tied for second in the PJHL’s Stobbs Division with identical 26-8-2 records and 54 points, setting the stage for an important showdown.

Blenheim led 2-0 after the first, but Lakeshore responded with three second-period goals from Vaughn Truppe, Michael Kopcok, and Denver Boismier to take control. Kyle Kelly added an empty-netter late to seal the win.

"The first was a little tough." said Kopcok who also added two assists against the Blades. "Coach (Brent Walker) came in and gave it to us a little bit (between periods) and we went on to play Lakeshore hockey for the next 40 minutes."

Julian Gignac is back in Lakeshore

After starting the season in LaSalle, Julian Gignac returned to Lakeshore and has been a nice addition to the team.

"It's great. My time in LaSalle was good. I wanted to come back here. I have a lot of friends here." Gignac told Powerplay Sports.

The 18-year old tallied an assist against the Blades and has 4 goals and 3 assists in five games since his return.

Lakeshore travels to Blenheim to complete the weekend home-and-home against the Blades Sunday afternoon at 7pm.
