Flyers trending upwards

The Leamington Flyers are the hottest team in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. It's been 14 games since they lost in regulation to Collingwood January 5th. "The guys are playing well and the right way," said head coach Dale Mitchell. "It’s nice to see us playing with leads and even coming back in games during this streak."

Their play in 2024 has caught the attention of the Canadian Junior Hockey League which governs nine leagues including the OJHL. The Flyers cracked the top 20 last week coming in at #19. This week they moved up to 12. "It’s nice to see the players and organization get recognized for their hard work and results. In the same breath our main goal is the playoffs and performing there." said Mitchell.

Captain Cayden Faust is leading the team with 61 points including 24 during the streak. Alex Cunningham has 23 in his last 14 games. "Cayden has really stepped up and taken the team under his wing," Mitchell said. "He has played a lot of hard minutes and has produced at the same time. Also think Cunningham has been a big part of that conversation as well. They compliment each other well."

With six games left in the regular season Leamington is still in the hunt for second place in the West Division as they trail Milton by four points. They have three games coming up this weekend including two at home. The Flyers host Buffalo Thursday before hitting the road Friday to Burlington. They'll close out the weekend at home Sunday night against Oakville.
