Lancers golf champs

The Windsor Lancers women's golf team capped off a cinderella season by winning the OUA title. Alyssa Getty of Kingsville won the women's individual title with a two-day total of 154 (79-75). "It was awesome to win both as a team and individually at the OUA's especially since that was what we were working towards all year. Juggling grad school and golf was tough but hard work pays off".

Jamie Oleksiew made first team all-star while LaSalle's Laura DeMarco and Windsor's Nicole Cesca were named second team all-stars.

"We're all very excited to bring home a championship for both the university of Windsor and Windsor- Essex county. We have a great golf community and support system in Windsor, there was no better way to with an OUA title than with three players from the area" said DeMarco

Cesca, who credits learning the game on the Jamieson Junior Tour, says it was a priviledge to play for head coach Adam Wagner and the Lancers. "With our bronze medal finish last season, it seemed fitting to set a team goal this season to win the OUA Championship. With the determined group of individuals that make up this team, the focus on this goal was never lost. It is truly an honour to be part of such a great team and to be able to bring home an OUA Golf Championship for the University of Windsor. It’s a dream come true and a memory I will cherish forever".

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
