Lancers Track & Field ready for opener

The University of Windsor track and field team is hosting the Can-Am Classic starting Friday at 5pm at the Fairall Fieldhouse. It'll be their first meet at home since the 2018 season. Last year the St. Denis went through some upgrades that didn't allow the Lancers to host.

A small group went to Florida for a week-long training camp after Christmas which head coach Colin Inglis says went well. He fells this year's squad has a strong work ethic heading into this weekend's event.

It's a young squad with half of the team heading into their first home meet. Inglis says he is looking forward to seeing how his team reacts to competing on campus and how and how they use the experience moving forward.

The men's team had a strong showing during the cross country season finishing 4th at the OUA championship. Joshua Martin who was named an all-star after finishing 10th. Click video below brought to you by Hogan's Printing to hear who inspired the team last fall and will continue to motivate them during the indoor season.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
