Saints repeat in wild OFC final

The OFC title game was a wild ride that saw the St. Clair football team prevail 32-31 over the London Beefeaters to repeat as champions. "It's mixed emotions right now because of the way the game ended." said head coach Mike Lachance. "It was back and forth. When we scored with 1:30 left it kinda felt like we did it and then they get the ball back, did a great job."

Trailing 32-25, London marched right back down the field as Geoff Clubine scored his third touchdown of the game on a 49-yard run. After a failed two-point conversion the Beefeaters retrieved an onside kick and threatened to score again. Quarterback George Denniss threw a 23-yard pass to Jayden Shallow putting the visitors inside the St. Clair 30 yard line. With 20 seconds left in the game London decided to run a play and subsequently lost the ball and the game. Gaddy Kazadi stripped the ball away from Clubine who was building steam through the middle of the field. The ball sprung loose and was recoved by the Saints in their endzone. "Words can't describe it." said Kazadi. "I saw the run. I just chased it down. Made the hit. God did the rest."

St. Clair qualifies for the CJFL semi-finals next week in Saskatoon. The winner of that game will play for the big prize in British Columbia in November.
