(WINDSOR, ON) — The Windsor Spitfires will celebrate a franchise milestone on December 31st, honouring goaltender Joey Costanzo prior to their New Year’s Eve matchup against the Saginaw Spirit.
"It's surreal." Costanzo told Powerplay Sports. "It takes a community to achieve something like that. In a lot of way I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of giants. It's been four coming now so it's special to me and this place has kinda become my second home."

Costanzo etched his name into Spitfires history on December 18th tying the franchise record, held by Michael DiPietro, for wins in Windsor’s final game before the Christmas break with a victory over the Soo Greyhounds. He then claimed the record outright on Monday night, earning first-star honours in a win over conference-leading Flint for his 88th career victory with the club.
"I wish we could celebrate everybody. It's not just me. I feel like all 20 guys in the room and the 20 guys prior to that and even before that, it's everybody that's helped me along the way. I can't do it by myself."
Now in his fifth OHL season, the Toronto native is once again among the league’s elite.
Through 25 games, Costanzo owns an 18-4-2 record. His 1.90 goals-against average is tied for tops in the league with Ottawa rookie Ryder Fetterolf. He is second behind Fetterolf for the league lead with .921 save percentage. Costanzo also has three shutouts, one fewer than last season.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the New Year’s Eve day game, where super limited-edition Joey Costanzo wall-size posters (18x24, frame not included) will be available while supplies last — a chance to take home a piece of Spitfires history as one of the franchise’s greatest goaltenders is recognized.
