Starters hit double digits as Lancers advance

After laying an egg against Guelph on February 18th the University men's basketball team used the seven day break to make sure the result would be different when playoffs begin. All five starters hit double digit points as the Lancers rebounded big with a 93-74 win over the Gryphons to advance.

"Proud of the team's response," said head coach Chris Cheng. "At this point of the season it's all about executing adjustments and game plan. I felt the team did a good job for the most part doing that."

Windsor trailed 21-20 after the first quarter but never looked back after taking the lead in the second. Thomas Kennedy led the way with a double-double (20 points-10 rebounds). Xavier Ochu has 17.

With the victory the Lancers advance to the OUA semifinals against the Ottawa Gee Gees.

"It's a great position to be in. Ottawa has been on top all year long. They have a solid starting five. We look forward to Wednesday evening."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
