CCH trying to keep pace with Leamington

The Catholic Central sr. girls basketball team beat a young Maranatha team 47-27 to move to 2-1 on the season. Ashley Gonzales led all scorers with 21 as she helped key a 13-0 CCH run top open the third quarter. "It was fun. Our team played well. Very proud of them." said Gonzales. "We're getting better and I can't wait to see how the season goes."

Maranatha, who was playing its first game of the season, got 14 points from grade 12 student-athlete Brooke Huisman. "I think it was a really good first game considering our team is very young." said Huisman, who also plays volleyball. "There's a lot of grade 9's and 10's but we're still a senior team. I'm really proud of how we played and I'm excited for future games."

The win helps the Comets keep pace with league-leading Leamington who have won their first three games including a 5-point win over CCH. They tip off Thursday at Academie Ste. Cecile while Maranatha is at Leamington October 10th.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
