Comets return to Tier 1 with win

Dave Walls added a large group of strong junior players to his returning core of senior players and decided to move the Catholic Central sr. boys basketball team to Tier 1 this season. "We're very athletic," Walls said after his team opened the regular season with a 45-37 win over Tecumseh Vista. "The last two years we played in Tier 2 and we were one of the most athletic teams."

He isn't sure how his team would handle the transition but so far so good. The Comets played a bigger Vortex team but used their athleticism to erase an 8-point halftime deficit.

"The composure in a tight game, this team (TVA) went to the finals last year so we could have easily said 'oh they're better than us' and our kids did not do that. They always want to play to their potential." Walls said.

CCH is at Kennedy next Tuesday before facing Holy Names December 12th. The Knights dispatched St. Joe's 83-27. Kennedy beat Riverside in a barn burner 75-73. Lajeunesse beat St. Anne 57-37.

Vista heads to Kennedy Thursday.
