El-Turk adds depth and experience

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

Jimmy El-Turk, head coach of the St. Clair women's volleyball team, says he is adding "winners" to next season's team with the recent addition of six players to his roster. Sarah Dobison, Helen Wiebe, Kelly Rodgers, Crystyn James, Lilly Hearn and Ashley Yuen join a Saints team that won bronze at the OCAA championships this past season.

Sarah Dobinson is from Whitby, Ontario and played NCAA ball at Niagara University last season. The 22-year old is a former Team Ontario player and brings instant leadership to the squad.

Helen Wiebe last played for the Saints in 2016 following a four-year career at St. Clair. The Leamington District Secondary School grad is back on campus for the Human Resource Management program.

"I’m really excited to be a part of the team and back on the court, which is something I didn’t think I would be doing again." said Wiebe. "With the athletes that are returning and the new recruits I’m very confident that this team will be playing for a medal at nationals this year, and I’m thankful I get to be a part of it".

"Sarah and Helen bring maturity and experience to what will be a very young locker room. They also bring size and the ability to terminate points from the left side." said El-Turk.

Setter Ashley Yuen will give El-Turk depth and experience at a position hit by the graduation of Kim Quintanilla.

The last three of his recruits are middles. Kelly Rodgers is a 6'2 middle with club and Team Ontario experience. The Bluevale Collegiate Institute grad leaves Waterloo to take the Child & Youth Care program at St. Clair.

A Phoenix Volleyball Club grad, Crystyn James also has time with Team Ontario on her resume.

Middle Lilly Hearn joins the Saints after winning the WECSSAA AA championship this past season with the Sandwich Sabres.

"I am supper excited to join the saints family." said Hearn. "I loved watching them play this season. They are a very supportive team, with lots of talent, and strong leadership. This up coming season is going to be one to remember. I can’t wait."

"All three middles will really improve our training environment." said El-Turk.

Heading into his sixth year El-Turk feels he is adding size and athleticism to his squad and is "really thrilled with our recruiting class for the 2020-2021 season.
