EDHS girls hockey makes history

The Essex District High School girls hockey team did it again. After winning their first ever A/AA WECSSAA title last week they beat Petrolia 1-0 on the road Monday to claim the SWOSSA championship and qualify for the OFSAA tournament.

"Incredibly proud of this hard working team," said head coach Deb McAiney whose team is now headed to Whitby for the provincial championships. "I love it. We rolled every line. All players put their 110% into the game. A total team effort from the back-end out. Can't be more proud."

After leading Essex to the WECSSAA title with a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Kingsville last week, Brynn Bellmore scored the lone goal of the contest in the second period against the Lancers.

Rebecca Mcfarlane posted the shutout. She has been sharing the net with Grace Ondracka this season and between the two, they've post nine shutouts in 13 league and playoff games.

Essex heads into the OFSAA tournament with a season record of 10-1-2.

"They're a very close and connected team and are excited and looking forward to an opportunity of a lifetime." McAiney said.
