Lajeunesse brings home gold

Updated: Apr 17

For the third straight year the senior boys basketball team at Lajeunesse brought home a medal from the provincial championships in Woodstock.

They beat the host team for their second OFSAA gold in three seasons with a bronze in 2024. "It was another fantastic run for us," said head coach Geoff Parent. "We faced some challenges and had some rough shooting stretches at times but our defensive performance was strong to compensate for it."

Parent told Powerplay Sports Jacy Zhang shood out at the guard position effectively controlling both ends of the floor while Lucas Kwapisz was impressive despite dealing with an ankle injury he sustained in their second game of the tournament against Monseigneur-Bruyere.

This year's tournament was the 10th in the past 11 years for Lajeunesse and Parent said the road to the final was tougher than it was in 2023. "Likely due to the pressure of being the top seed for the second consecutive year and the added stress of avoiding disappointment. The team really rose to the occasion and I couldn't be prouder of this group."
