Lajeunesse is crowned champ

There was only one way to prove who the best sr. girls basketball team is and WECSSAA made it happen. A week long tournament gave high school's a chance to battle for supremacy. Kennedy and Lajeunesse made it to the end but only one could hoist the new WECSSAA championship trophy Friday night at the Clipperdome.

Lajeunesse led 29-22 at the half and opened up their lead to ten points late in the third quarter. Kennedy made a push and cut the deficit to six on a three-pointer by Alisha Murray, who led all scorers with 20 points. Lajeunesse responded with two quick baskets to regain their ten point advantage and held on for a 48-38 win. The Royals are crowned the first WECSSAA high school champions.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
