Update: Windsor Broomball finishes 2nd

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

Windsor was host to the provincial broomball championships featuring seven divisions this weekend at the Capri Recreation Complex. We caught up with the Windsor Co-Ed team Saturday. They squared off against Rough Edge from Grafton, Ontario.

This game went to an entertaining overtime tied at 2-2. Windsor's Josh Evans set up the game winning powerplay with defence and hustle. He thwarted a deke attempt by Thomas Woodrow, chased down the ball in the neutral zone and dove to get it past one of Grafton's strongest players, got up and went strong to the net. He was taken down by Woodrow sending Windsor to the powerplay.

That's where Mike Chenier took care of business with his second of the game as Windsor advanced to the semi-finals.

They ended up losing 3-0 to the Young Bucks from the Blyth area.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
