One of the athletes having a great WECSSAA championship week is Gianfranco Rauti of Villanova. The 14-year old broke a 19-year old record on Tuesday in the Novice 1500m coming in with a time of 4:15.12 seconds. He beat 2nd place finisher and teammate Max Naccarato by a full 17 seconds and eclipsed the record set my Darryl Smith of Massey in 2006 (4:16.25).

Wednesday's 3000m was a no contest as Rauti breezed to victory in 9:41.51. Attix Baldassi of Holy Names was second at 10:18.87.

Rauti will go for triple gold Thursday at 11am in the 800m where his best time of the season is four seconds shy of the 2011 mark set by Lyjah Dunn of Riverside.

Rauti's teammate Alyssa Tannini has the fastest time heading into the novice 100m final Thursday. She ran 12.36 in prelims to qualify and is striking distance of the record set by Eva Mocarski of Massey in 1972 when she clocked in a 12.30.

"I just want to pb again because I want sub 12.30. I kinda hurt myself in hurdles so it might not be that good but I'll try." Tannini told Powerplay Sports. "I really want to go to OFSAA. I don't care if I place. I just want a hoodie."

Addy Rudling broke the novice 3000m record Wednesday clocking in a 10:27.16 seconds. She just missed the record set by Olivia Little of Massey in 2011 of 10:28.38 seconds.

The grade 9 runner placed first in the 1500m with a time of 4:51.11. "I almost pd'd. I was pretty happy with it."
