Saints flash power in win over Fanshawe

The St. Clair softball team continues to dominate the OCAA this season adding a two-game sweep over Fanshawe Wednesday night to their record. "We're coming together as a team." said Bryanna Kressler who went 3-for-4 with a homerun, triple and five RBI's to lead the Saints to a 15-5 win in the nightcap. "You see it on the field what we do in practice. It's a really good time with this team.

The Saints powered their way to an 11-1 win in the opener with Amy Claydon, Sierra Baltzer and Ashley Ventura all going yard in a nine-run third inning. "We swung the bat effectively." said head coach Doug Wiseman. "Base running needs a little improvement from the weekend still. We always find something to work on and that's the reason why we're pretty good. We keep trying to get better." Mckenna Copley earned her league-leading 10th win on the mound.

St. Clair is at the top of the standings with a 16-0 record. Claydon leads the OCAA with a .576 batting average. She is followed by Kressler (.565), Shae-Lyn Murphy (.516) and Baltzer (.511). Alexis Ferreira of Humber rounds out the top-5 at .500.

Kressler's homerun was her fifth of the season which tops the OCAA. She also leads the league with 34 RBI's. She says it wasn't necessarily her goal to be more powerful at the plate this season but her time in the gym seems to be paying off. "I've been working out more in the gym so I've put on a little so it's just translating to my bat." she said with a smile.

St. Clair has a pair of games at Durham and Seneca this weekend before heading off to British Columbia for the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championship. The Saints are looking to repeat after winning the title at home last fall. "I like where we're at." Wiseman said. "We step up to the competition. We've been challenged sometimes this year which is great. Even some of the adversity today we bounced back, swung the bats."
