"We would have folded up and lost that last year every time," Saints head coach Shawn Reaume.
Not this year. The St. Clair College men's volleyball team showed they are not the same as they were a year ago when they finished 8-10. "This time we're down 20-15 in the third set, we're on the bench 'we're good, we're better let's do it'." said Reaume. And that's what they did. The Saints stormed back to take the set against a strong divisional rival from Fanshawe who eventually extended the match to the limit.
St. Clair prevailed 15-12 to win 3-2. The Saints improved to 12-3 and sit alone atop the OCAA West Division. The Falcons dropped to 10-5.
Rookie outside hitter Arthur Richard led the offence with 16 kills. 3rd year setter Nick Kwiakowski made some plays dishing off 48 assists, 11 digs, 3 service aces and 2 stuff blocks.
St. Clair is ranked 3rd in the OCAA and 11 in Canada. They'll face Conestoga Saturday at 4pm at the Sportsplex in a battle for first place. The Candors, who have won six straight, are 11-3 after sweeping Mohawk Wednesday night.
The women's team made quick work of Fanshawe sweeping the Falcons in just over an hour. The Saints moved to 13-2. "Finding pieces that are our weakness and making those stronger right now," Head coach Julie-Ann Milling said as the team heads into the stretch run of their schedule with three matches remaining. "Some positions on the court need a little bit more activity with a like setting, getting more kills out of those spots."
