Ella Steel-Douglas had a strong open in the 100 metre hurdles at the Lancer Prep Invitational. The Sandwich track athlete set the meet record with a time of 13.99 seconds.
"I thought it was a good opener," Steel-Douglas told Powerplay Sports. "I was pretty relaxed and I was happy to finally be out here on a track."
The race was her first of the season after dealing with hamstring issues. Ella says she hadn't hurdled in well over a month and has focused on training during that time.
Opening with a meet record has Steel-Douglas feeling good with the WECSSAA championships coming up next week and SWOSSA championship the week after, both being hosted by Sandwich.
"I'm excited so that's driving me the most. I'm hoping to get an OFSAA record this year in the 100 hurdles. That's my final goal.
Steele-Douglas was named female track and field athlete of the year at last week's WESPY awards.
"And school's been going well too so it's a good plus."
