Windsor, ON — September 29, 2025
The Windsor Spitfires are off to a red-hot start in the 2025–26 OHL season, improving to 5–0 after a commanding 4–1 win over the Oshawa Generals Sunday night.
"Obviously very happy with our team in all aspects," head coach Greg Walters told Powerplay Sports. "The young players are all getting better every day."
Leading the way was Ethan Garden, who tallied a goal and three assists to complete a perfect weekend for the Spits. Windsor also downed Barrie 3–1 on Saturday, powered by Beksultan Makysh’s two-goal performance and Joey Costanzo’s 31-save effort in net. Makysh earned first-star honours, while Costanzo continued to impress between the pipes.
The weekend kicked off Thursday night at the WFCU Centre, where Costanzo earned a shutout in a 4–0 win over the Sudbury Wolves. Rookie John McLaughlin made his mark in that game, scoring his first two career OHL goals in front of the home crowd.
With the perfect weekend, Windsor now sits at the top of the OHL standings with 10 points, just ahead of undefeated Owen Sound (4–0).
The Spitfires return home this Thursday to face the Niagara IceDogs, then hit the road for back-to-back games in Brantford (Saturday) and Owen Sound (Sunday).
A day after beating Minnesota 4-1, the Chicago Black Hawks trimmed their roster to 31 releasing seven players including AJ Spellacy who returns to Windsor for the season.
The L.A. Kings have 48 players on their training camp roster including Spits' captain Liam Greentree. The Kings play their 5th pre-season game Tuesday night against the Utah Mammoth at Idaho Central Arena. They face off against the Mammoth Oct 2nd before facing the Anaheim Ducks Oct 4th. The Greentree watch is on.
