Spits season ends in Saginaw

The sports community was embracing the Windsor Spitfires' run to the OHL final in May of 2022. Tonight, the fans will cheer for a team that has played hard down the stretch but enters their final game of the season at the end of March.

"I think we just need to play hard and hopefully bring some momentum coming into next year," Liam Greentree told Powerplay Sports. "I can still get better. A lot of the guys can still get better so we're definitely going to be focusing on those things."

Greentree has 35 goals and 88 points heading into the regular season finale against the Spirit with a chance to crack the league's top 10 list. He trails Kitchener's Hunter Brzustewicz by two points for the 10 spot.

Named captain earlier this year, Greentree was proud to wear the "C" on his shirt. "I've taken it and think I've done a pretty good job so far. I'm just gonna try and continue to do my thing."

Rookie Cole Davis had a strong first year with 20 goals and 41 points heading into tonight. "Gotta thank my teammates and coaches for sure," Davis told Powerplay Sports. "They definitely pushed me to be better. I'm just gonna get to work this summer, come back ready to go."

Despite watching the team pile up a lot of losses towards the end of the season Davis feels the team will benefit from their struggles.

"I think it was a good development year for all of us whether it's the guys moving on or the young guys that are gonna come into next season ready to go. We're gonna come back next year even stronger."
