Upstart Purple Raiders turning heads

For the first time in well over a decade the Assumption sr. girls soccer team defeated cross-town rival Brennan. "We've been coaching together for 12 years," said Kim Pierce who serves as an assistant coach under Rob Muscedere. "We haven't beat Brennan and he was coaching a few years prior to me getting here and he also not seen us win against Brennan."

The Purple Raiders won convincingly 7-0 moving to 4-0 on the season. "I think it's really exciting for our school," said Saryna Milne who scored 3 goals against the Cardinals Tuesday afternoon. "It's a really big step forward for our soccer team."

Assumption leads the Group 2 A/AA division and have scored 35 goals while allowing one. Milne is second on the team with eight goals behind Maddy Rousseau who has tallied 14 times.

The 16-year old played travel soccer for seven year before deciding to shift her focus to basketball and track last summer. "I've been starting to like basketballl more," said the grade 10 student-athlete. "I feel like it's more fun but now that I'm with friends too it feels really exciting."

The Purple Raiders are the upstarts this season with Lajeunesse (3-0) and Riverside (3-0) right behind them in the standings. "We're hoping for good things for the girls," Pierce said. "We don't want to get ahead of ourselves but we're hoping for good things."
