Mr. Basketball leading Knights into playoffs

Arlind Avdo of Holy Names is this year's Mr. Basketball. "I am tremendously grateful and honoured to receive this award," Avdo told Powerplay Sports. "I would like to acknowledge and give a big thank you to my coaches for pushing me to my limits as well as, my teammates for all the dedication and hard work they displayed this season."

Avdo helped lead Holy Names to a perfect 9-0 season and earn a first round bye.

"As coaches it’s great to see players like Arlind get recognition for all the hard work and dedication he’s put into his game." said head coach Ryan Steer. "He’s improved each year at Holy Names, and it shows in his individual game and our team record. In our minds, individual awards are attributed to team success and we’re proud of Arlind and all 13 of our guys for their body of work this season. To have a Mr. Basketball and 3 other All Stars is a great accomplishment for our program at Holy Names."

The Knights will face Massey at home in the WECSSAA semi-finals. The Mustangs finished 5-4 and beat Villanova in the quarter-finals. "We look forward to the various opportunities ahead like wecssa playoffs, aiming to win as a team." Avdo said.

Steer added, "The goal is always to play your best at this time of year and we know we have a lot left to prove on the court."

Tip off is 5:30.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
