St. Anne Saints Punch Ticket to OFSAA with Dominant Play-In Win
The St. Anne Saints are Kingston-bound after a convincing 7-0 victory over Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) in an OFSAA play-in game held Friday at Holy Names.

Looking to bounce back from a tough SWOSSAA final loss earlier in the week to Ursuline College (UCC), the Saints came out strong against the Golden Hawks, controlling the game from the opening whistle. By halftime, they had total control of the game with a 5-0 lead.
Leading the offensive charge was Bolade Fawehinmi, who netted four goals in an outstanding performance. Zach Sobieraj added a brace while Owen Butler chipped in with a goal of his own.
The Saints split goal keeping duties between stoppers Nik Varjacic, who handled the first half and Lachlan Booth who closed out second. Both keepers held firm to preserve the clean sheet.
“The boys controlled the game, possessed the ball well, created many opportunities and took advantage of their chances,” said head coach Carlos Soares. "We have a great group of young men here. They set out their goals at the beginning of the season, and OFSAA was always the target.”
Last season, the Saints captured both the WECSSAA and SWOSSAA titles but fell short at OFSAA. With Friday’s win, they’ve earned another shot at provincial glory.
“We didn’t get there the way we would have hoped, but that’s football,” Soares told Powerplay Sports. “We were fortunate to have another chance (Friday) and the boys took it. As coaches, we are proud of their effort, desire, and commitment.”
St. Anne now joins UCC as SWOSSAA’s representatives at OFSAA, which kicks off Thursday in Kingston. The Saints will open the tournament against St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Secondary School from Aurora at 10:30 a.m.
