Galway United are excited to announce the signing of 23-year-old Canadian centre-back Gianfranco Facchineri from Valour FC.
“Beyond excited to join the League of Ireland and Galway United. Can’t wait to get on the pitch with all my new teammates!” The former Windsor Lancer shared on the club's social media.
Facchineri made a name for himself at the University of Windsor, earning OUA West First Team All-Star honours, after playing in the Vancouver Whitecaps program in 2020. He has also represented Canada at the U17 level, giving him experience on the international stage.
He’s the second player to join Galway United from Valour FC this season, following Kris Twardek.
“Gianfranco has been on our radar for a while,” said Galway United manager John Caulfield. “He’s quick, technically excellent, strong in the air, and brings a lot of energy. We’re thrilled to have him on board and can’t wait to see him in action.”
Fans can look forward to seeing Facchineri step onto the pitch as Galway United kick off their 2026 campaign with a fresh boost to their defense.
