After years of talk and various proposals from various groups, the City of Windsor will have a publicly owned turf field.

The province is chipping in a million dollars to a project that will cost $3.1 million. The field will be located at the back of McHugh Park. Joe Barile, president of the Essex County Soccer Association, estimates 175 teams in the Essex County Soccer League, Over-30 and 45 rec soccer leagues, regional leagues and others will be able to use the field.
"It's gonna benefit everybody." said Joe Barile, president of the Essex County Soccer Association. "We have kids as young as four playing well into adulthood. Ten-thousand registered players in Windsor-Essex County. It's a chance to extend our soccer season."
Cork Field
Barile says the turf will be cork based, unlike the standard rubber base seen around town.

The turf field will become the 4th within city limits. St. Clair College, University of Windsor and Academie Ste-Cecile have turf field for their sports programs and some user group use.
Shovels are expected to hit the ground in two to three weeks and should be done by Thanksgiving according to Barile.
