Flyers take stranglehold of series

Chris O'Flaherty nets game winner in overtime.

Up 2-0 in their best-of-seven first round series against Georgetown, Leamington Flyers head coach Dale Mitchell expected game 3 to be a battle with Raiders fighting to get back in the series.

After a scoreless first period in a tight physical game Kristian Lamanna got the visitors on the board at 1:19 of the second period. The Flyers weren't without chances outshooting the Raiders 31-17 after two but Georgetown goalie Aiden Berry was standing tall as he stymied the home team.

The Flyers would finally get on the board breaking through on their fourth powerplay of the game. Brayden Degelas notched his second of the series on the powerplay redirecting a soft Matt Thomas shot from the point at 6:56.

Cayden Faust used cheat codes to give Leamington a 2-1 lead at 12:14. He broke through a seem with a burst of video game-like speed, on the penalty kill, and took off on a breakaway. The captain went five-hole for his first of the playoffs but Cole Zurawski would send the game to overtime with 53 seconds left in regulation.

With Berry on the bench, the 16-year old popped the waterbottle with a zinger from a tough angle below the right side hash mark.

The game looked as though it was going to a second overtime period but Chris O'Flaherty scored his third of the series at 18:09 to give the Flyers a 3-2 win and a 3-0 series lead over Georgetown. Leamington has a chance to close out the series Saturday on the road.
