Future Wolverine Tate Carey

Carey is heading down I-94 to the University of Michigan to pitch for the Wolverines. A member of the Junior National Team, Carey played for the Great Lake Canadians this past summer. "It was huge, all the exposure I got was great. There wasn’t a school or pro team that didn’t see me pitch. It was cool travelling all around the US and seeing where I stack up against other players in my class."

A multi-sport athlete, Carey liked whatever sport was in front of him but says his love for baseball grew during the pandemic. "I would go outside and play catch and hit all day long. That’s when I grew a love for the game more and stuck with it."

Carey points to many for his success including his coaches, teammates and family. He'd like to take his passion as far as he can. "The dream is to be a starter on a major league team eventually and have a successful career." Carey said. "In the end I just want to be successful and happy with the decision I made and things I’ve done in life."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
