Community support continues to drive the Joe Hogan Memorial. The 26th edition of the tournament saw 436 golfers recently tee off at three local golf courses to help raise over $75,000 for the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation and Sherron Hogan Memorial Scholarship Fund.
"It's awesome we can help young men and women that have been affected by cancer move on and go to post secondary education." said co-organizer Dan Hogan. "It's also awesome that the community can come together, play golf in one day, get together and have a bite to eat and raise that kind of money to go right back into our community."
Funds also help support programs and the purchase of necessary equipment through the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre Foundation.
A highlight from this year's banquet was an auction for two SuperBowl tickets that netted $17,500. The tournament and scholarship fund has raised over $1.5 million dollars since its inception in 1997 in memory of Joe and Sherron Hogan. "It's a great day of friends. There were some tears but at the same time we put our heads together and we end up raising that kind of money." Hogan said. "It's awesome."
