Les Aigles de L’Essor continued their dominant season with a resounding 6-0 win over Belle River to capture the WECSSAA Senior Girls AA Soccer Championship on Thursday at Alumni Stadium. The victory not only secured the title but also punched their ticket to the SWOSSAA final, bringing them one step closer to their ultimate goal—qualifying for OFSAA.

The goals came in waves for L’Essor, with Liz Boccarossa and Cadence Maclellan each netting two, while Angelica Palanca and Jasmine Dado added singles. At the other end of the field, goalkeeper Jolina Mouawad earned another clean sheet, continuing an impressive defensive record for a team that has allowed just one goal all season.
“It has been an absolute pleasure coaching this group this season,” Head coach Cathleen Mulvey told Powerplay Sports. “They set a goal at the very beginning of the season to reclaim the WECSSAA title and hopefully advance to OFSAA, and have approached the whole season with that in mind – and we are now just one step away.”
The coach also praised the team’s unity and balance: “Every single player on the team has contributed this year in a meaningful way, and our defensive record is a real team effort. It starts with high pressure from the forwards, the midfield winning the 50/50s and dominating possession, all the way to a defense that pressures and covers in a coordinated way, as well as solid goaltending.”

Les Aigles will now host the SWOSSAA final on Thursday, May 29, at their home field. They'll face LCCVI with a chance to qualify for the OFSAA provincial championship in Kingston featuring guest speaker Desiree Scott of the Canadian National Soccer team, a 2020 Olympic gold medallist in Tokyo and two-time bronze medal winner in London 2012 and Rio 2016.
