Labonte beats Adjetey-Nelson record

Brayden Labonte set a record on day one of the WECSSAA track and field championships in the 400m hurdles finishing with a time of 53.45 seconds. He beat the time of 54.96 set by former Windsor Lancer standout Jamie Adjetey-Nelson in 2003 who was a member of the St. Joe's Lasers.

Adjetey-Nelson, a member of LaSalle Police, met up with Labonte to fake a light-hearted arrest before congratulating the Belle River athlete.

"It was great to hear my record had been broken," Adjetey-Nelson said. "In those moments , it's a personal accomplishment because you set new standards for people to achieve. I imagine Brayden is going to wonder how long his record is going to stand and when it does, he will be able to share that moment with that record holder."

Labonte also won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.30. Thomas-Daniel Tent finished second at 14.67.
