Lakeshore takes 3-2 series lead

It looked as though the home team was destined to lose another game in front of their fans. Essex took a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals by Mike Smith and Jacob Cruickshank. "It's a crazy series. You don't see that everyday." said Lakeshore head coach Anthony Iaquinta.

The Canadiens broke through at 9:22 of the middle frame as Marco Sladoje took a favourable bounce in the neutral zone, broke free from a defender to create a breakaway. The 18-year old beat Essex netminder Jakob Knowles glove side cutting the lead in half.

Less than nine minutes later Adam Pizzo pounced on a dump in and centered a pass to Kyle Walker who tied the game at two.

Trevor Larue scored on the powerplay at 8:55 of the third to give Lakeshore the lead. With time running out Tycen Chittle sprung Karson Beuglet down low. His one-timer was picked off by Habs' goalie Trevor Heslop with 2.1 seconds left on the clock to preserve the win.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
