Lancers men's hockey salvage point

Waterloo goaltender Julian Sime closed the door in the shootout as the Warriors skated away with a 2-1 win against the Windsor Lancers Saturday night at the Capri Complex. It looked as though Jack Scanlan's first period goal would hold up as the game-winner for the Warriors but a late third period hit opened the door for the game-tying goal. Waterloo's Andrew Cordssen-David was whistled for a five-minute major for hitting Sean Olson from behind with 36 seconds left in regulation. With the Lancers on the powerplay Ryan Barbosa wired a shot from the point to deadlock the affair.

After an exciting overtime that saw both goalie make key saves the game went to a shootout. Jacob Cascagnette scored the lone goal giving the visiting Warriors a much needed win. The victory moved them ahead of Western for the 8th and final playoff position in the West Division. The Lancers remain in 4th and will face the Varsity Blues in Toronto Friday.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
