Ly continues win streak

Jasmine Ly won for the third straight time this month firing a 2-under par 70 at Maple City in Chatham Monday in the collegiate women's division. "It feels great to have won the first few events" said the Holy Names grad and Northern Illinois University golfer. "I've been trying to improve on some things in my game so it's nice to see that it's working out on the course during tournament rounds".

Ly, who won by two shots over Brooke MacKinnon, said the highlight of her day was on hole seven. She stuck her approach on the par 3 within two feet before knocking it down.

Tyler Hurtubise was three-over at the turn but caught fire on the back nine to win his first jr. boys event of the season with a one-under 71. "Feels great to be back on track and have the confidence it takes to win" said the Pointe West golfer.

Hurtubise nailed four birdies in the first six holes after the turn and said, "the back nine was really smooth. My swing was great. Should have been lower actually, missed a few good chances. The highlight of his day was getting to play in a group with Spencer Higginbottom, who has been away from the game dealing with injuries.

Essex golfer Kennedy Fremlin earned her first win of the season finishing three shots ahead of Karolyn Rombouts of Maple City with an 80. Vanessa Ardovini, of Roseland, finished third with an 83.

In the Collegiate Mens’ Division, Mathew Hawryluk (Maple City) and Josh DiCarlo (Pointe West) tied with three-under par 69. Hawryluk capped off his round with a birdie-eagle finish on the par-five 17th and 18th holes.

The gang will reconvene Thursday at Ambassador Golf for event #4.
